Australian Wildlife Conservancy

As part of our commitment to the environment, Optus and Australian Wildlife Conservancy have joined together in a new partnership that will help create better homes for Australian wildlife.

We couldn’t have joined forces at a better time. Australia has the worst rate of animal extinction in the world, and right now, more than 1,500 kinds of animals are close to disappearing forever.

Together with Australian Wildlife Conservancy, we’ll be helping to turn this situation around by implementing practical conservation programs on a large scale. It’s a very exciting prospect.

Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC) is an independent, non-profit organisation dedicated to stemming the tide of extinctions and conserving all of Australia’s precious animal species and the habitats in which they live.

AWC represents an exciting new model for conservation in Australia and has the following distinguishing features:

  • A network of 15 wildlife sanctuaries, covering more than 1.1 million hectares (2.7 million acres)
  • It protects more than half of all of Australia’s bird and mammal species, and more than 260 ecosystems
  • Commitment to the practical land management of its sanctuaries, informed by the best available science

Yellow-Footed Rock WallabyAs an important part of our environmental commitment, Optus is proud to support the AWC and its team of scientists and land managers who are at the front-line in the battle to save Australia’s most endangered wildlife. Optus has entered into a joint initiative with the AWC "Creating homes for Australian animals" and is committed to provide financial support for the ongoing management of the wildlife protection program.

The first joint project with AWC aids in the protection of the Yellow-Footed Rock Wallaby which is listed as vulnerable under both Federal and South Australian legislation

At Buckaringa Wildlife Sanctuary in South Australia, AWC is protecting one of the largest remaining colonies of Yellow-footed Rock-wallabies in the Flinders Ranges.
