Cable & Wireless Optus has launched four new global communication services giving Australian businesses access to an expanding range of end-to-end data and voice solutions which can be tailored to suit customers' business requirements and organisational structures.
The range includes three new data services - Cable & Wireless ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode), Cable & Wireless Managed Private Line - and Cable & Wireless Secure Dial'. The fourth new service - Global Intelligent Virtual Network' (GIVN') - caters for corporate voice needs.
John Filmer, Director of Enterprise, Cable & Wireless Optus said the expanded range of global data and voice services will complement the Cable & Wireless Frame Relay' product offered in the Australian market for a number of years.
"To support the need for high volume, fast and reliable data transfer, our global Cable & Wireless ATM service is now available in Australia. Cable & Wireless ATM enables the integration of voice, video and data applications over a high quality digital infrastructure. It is a cost effective means of supporting high speed multimedia applications such as desktop video conferencing," said Mr Filmer.
"Later this year we will introduce our Global Intelligent Virtual Network, or GIVN service. GIVN provides a global service solution for multi-national customers, enabling them to link their sites around the world without the fixed costs and management complexity of a private network. It offers a range of billing, service management and reporting options which can be tailored to meet the customer's business requirements and organisational structure," he said.
Cable & Wireless Managed Private Line service is a direct, secure, cost-effective trans-national communication line. Bandwidth allocation, equipment installation and upgrades, and end-to-end network management will all be provided by Cable & Wireless Optus. A key feature of this service is local and global diversity, providing organisations with greater network resilience.
In addition, the company plans to release the Cable & Wireless Secure Dial service for mobile workforces. Regardless of their remote location, the service will provide secure, high-speed dial-up access to company information sources anywhere in the world.
According to Chris Anderson, Chief Executive, Cable & Wireless Optus, having access to global telecommunications services is imperative for customers seeking to strengthen their global position.
"Unlike a number of global alliances, Cable & Wireless Optus gains significant operating efficiencies from leveraging global products across the entire Cable & Wireless Group of companies," said Mr Anderson.
"Creating one global operating entity is about combining the strengths of national operating companies, drawing on a pool of shared infrastructure and expertise. We take the best of what the global market has to offer, and mix with it local 'know how' to offer our customers products and services which are among the best available anywhere in the world.
"Our global corporate reach gives us the ability to create something that no alliance can. We have built our own state-of-the-art infrastructure and this high speed fibre optic network links major business centres in the world. This fully coherent network allows us to offer Cable & Wireless Optus customers this range of truly global communication services," said Mr Anderson.
