Optus and One.Tel agree terms
04 Jun 2001

Cable & Wireless Optus and Ferrier Hodgson today announced that an agreement had been reached on the future of One.Tel customers connected to the Optus network.

Paul O'Sullivan, Managing Director Mobile for Cable & Wireless Optus, said that One.Tel customers now had an option for service continuity.

One.Tel customers will be able to keep their existing phone numbers and will not incur charges associated with early termination of One.Tel contracts if they choose to stay on the Optus network.

"The good news with this agreement today is that One.Tel customers are assured of ongoing service without having to change their phone number," Mr O'Sullivan said.

"Optus will continue to contact One.Tel customers over the next few days so we can explain their call plan options. Those customers who have already transferred to Optus need do nothing more. Their new arrangements will remain in place.

"For the first time One.Tel customers will be able to take advantage of 'Yes Weekend' and 'Yes Rollover' which not only gives them free calling time, but allows free time to be accumulated and used later," Mr O'Sullivan said.

Steve Sherman, Ferrier Hodgson Partner and Joint Administrator of One.Tel said he was pleased that a sensible outcome had been reached and that One.Tel customers had a secure service and an option of service providers.

"A good agreement has been reached with Optus and we are pleased that we can now move forward with the many other outstanding issues we have to tackle with One.Tel," Mr Sherman said.

The money which Optus pays under this agreement will help make payments to One.Tel creditors and staff - as well as preserving the interests of One.Tel customers," he said.

The agreement made between the administrators and Optus today is not affected by any other arrangement.
