Optus is putting the pedal to the metal with its CoWs to provide its mobile customers better coverage at the Bob Jane Tmarts Bathurst 1000 in October.
Optus will provide one large mobile base station or a Cell on Wheels (CoW) to deliver additional mobile coverage for the racing event.
Bathurst Network Communications store owner Gary Mclaughlin said, Optus is continuously raising the bar when it comes to improving mobile coverage.
"Optus is showing its support to the community and motor sport fans by providing additional mobile coverage for major events like the Bathurst and other V8 events across Australia.
"Last year, the mobile network traffic increased due to the influx of V8 fans. The event is expected to attract even more people this year and Optus is prepared for even heavier call traffic for the whole161 laps and more," he said.
As part of the Bathurst 1000, Optus mobile customers attending the event will see on their phones a display of various cell broadcasts including V8MtnShakers, 5.0LtrGrunt, V8s Rock Mtn and FordvHolden.
With more than four million mobile customers, a third of the nation's mobile subscribers are using the Optus mobile network.
