Optus is providing mobile coverage to Crescent Head following the installation of a mobile base station on the town's water reservoir.
Allen Lew, Managing Director Optus Mobile, said the Crescent Head site extends Optus' GSM mobile coverage on the mid north coast.
"Crescent Head is a popular tourist spot and providing mobile coverage was a key priority for Optus.
"Optus is committed to bringing increased competition to the mid north coast and offering some mobile customers a choice of network for the first time.
"Mobile phone coverage is not only important for people holidaying in the area but for the people who live and work in Crescent Head, a reliable mobile service is vital," Mr Lew said.
Optus built its 1000 th base station site at South West Rocks in 1999. Optus' GSM network now includes 3,600 base stations across Australia and is continuing to grow.
"Future base station plans include additional sites along the Pacific Highway including Clybucca, Cairn Cross and Cooperbung.
"We are confident mobile users will enjoy great coverage from our GSM sites and we offer a 14 day Coverage Satisfaction Guarantee to back up this confidence," Mr Lew said.
