Optus today launched MobileMail for Business, a new product for busy people to access their work email on their mobile phone whilst out of the office.
Unlike other wireless email systems, MobileMail requires only a simple application download from the Optus website and a mobile handset. The service supports Microsoft Exchange and Lotus email and can be used with a large number of mobile devices, including compatible phones, integrated PDAs with Palm and Microsoft operating systems and the new Smartphone.
Allen Lew, Managing Director, Optus Mobile, said MobileMail empowers customers to take control of their email.
"Mobile access to office email is one of the key services our customers tell us they need to help them manage busy work lives and schedules.
"MobileMail takes only minutes to install and gives customers the ability to view the contents of their office in-box on their mobile phone or PDA enabling them to read, delete and send mail as well as manage their calendar and access their contacts.
"Customers have been able to access their POP3 or internet email via a mobile phone for some time and now we can provide customers access to their business email," Mr Lew said.
Unlike other products on the market, MobileMail for Business will run on multiple devices* available today giving customers choice. MobileMail will cost a flat fee of $9.90 per month plus usage - different plans are available to suit different usage patterns.
"With MobileMail our customers no longer need to go back to their office to clear email - they can continually check their mail throughout the day when time allows," Mr Lew said.
This service is based on technology from American software company, SEVEN Networks Inc. SEVEN enables affordable, secure real-time mobile access to business email systems. SEVEN has worked with three SingTel Group companies including SingTel (Singapore), Globe Telecom (Philippines) and Optus to launch MobileMail in the region.
MobileMail is available from 10 June 2003.
