Optus delivers mobile coverage to Rutherford and Kurri Kurri
08 Dec 2003

Optus is providing enhanced mobile coverage to the townships and surrounds of Rutherford, Telarah and Kurri Kurri following the installation of mobile base stations in Rutherford and Kurri Kurri.

Richard Cavill, Owner and Manager of Optus World Greenhills, said Optus was committed to improving coverage and providing increased competition in the Hunter region.

"People living, working and travelling in the Hunter region will have a greater choice of GSM mobile network as a result of improved coverage.

"In addition to providing coverage to the townships, the Rutherford site also enhances coverage along the New England highway, particularly to the west towards Greta and provides coverage to the Rutherford industrial area.

"The Kurri Kurri site improves coverage east of Hospital Road and north of John Renshaw Drive. The site also extends the coverage footprint along Cessnock Road west and along John Renshaw Drive east of town.

"These new base stations complement the other sites at Ryhope, Killingworth, Mt Hutton, Hexham, Pokolbin, Merewether, Shoal Bay, Salt Ash, Tomago, Muswellbrook, Denman and West Belford placed in service over the course of this year," Mr Cavil said.

Both base stations have been placed on existing mobile structures to avoid the need to build new towers in the area.

Optus has plans for further sites in the Hunter over the coming months including Karuah, Edgeworth, Sandgate, Black Hill, Anna Bay, Bobs Farm, Mallabula, Fullerton Cove, Mulbring and Allandale.
