Optus is providing additional mobile coverage in Moree following the installation of a mobile base station on the town's wheat storage silos.

Allen Lew, Managing Director Optus Mobile, said the Moree South site extends the breadth of Optus' GSM mobile coverage.

"Moree is an important agricultural centre and improving mobile coverage was a key priority for Optus.

"The Moree South site has been designed to provide additional mobile coverage to the township of Moree and to increase the breadth of coverage on the outskirts of town. The site will also extend coverage south along the Newell Highway towards Narrabri.

"Optus is committed to bringing real competition to western NSW and offering some mobile customers a choice of GSM network for the first time," Mr Lew said.

Optus has plans to build base station sites in Belatta and Narrabri West over the next few months.
