Optus optimises mobile coverage from Bendigo to Mildura
02 Dec 2003

Optus completes its Calder Highway coverage between Bendigo and Mildura with two new sites in Charlton and Wycheproof.

Rob Parcell, Director Victoria, said Optus was focused on enhancing and extending mobile coverage along the important roadway.

"Since February this year more than 350 km of the Calder Highway has received new mobile coverage with the construction of 11 mobile base stations.

"The Charlton and Wycheproof sites provide extensive coverage to the respective townships and extend to cover the Calder Highway.

"In addition, Optus has built sites this year along the Northern Highway at Pyalong and Toorborac, Axedale on the McIvor Highway and Bagshot North, Mt Franklin and Daylesford along the Midland Highway," Mr Parcell said.

Shane Collihole, Owner and Manager of Network Communications, Bendigo said never before have Optus customers been able to use their mobile phones so widely across the state.

"Optus' improvements along the Calder Highway will give the people who live, work and travel from Bendigo to Mildura a choice of GSM mobile network for the first time.

"Customers with car kits can maximise signal levels as they drive in the area," Mr Collihole said.

Optus will continue to expand its mobile coverage in the area with sites planned in Durham Ox, Castlemaine, Maldon, Derby, Malmsbury and Patho over the next few months.

"We are confident people will be impressed with Optus coverage and we encourage customers to put us to the test," Mr Parcell said.
