Optus turns up the heat with bundle breakthough
28 Oct 2004

In a bold move that will shake up the Australian broadband market, Optus today announced it would offer consumers up to four months free broadband every year when they bundle with other Optus voice products.

Effective 1 November 2004, consumers who bundle fixed line telephony, most consumer post-paid mobile plans and broadband services with Optus will enjoy four months free broadband access every year, on any broadband plan. Customers who choose to take up OptusNet broadband with either Optus fixed line telephony or most consumer post-paid mobile plans will receive three months free broadband access.

For consumers, the new offer will effectively reduce the price of broadband by a third, offering savings of up to $500* per year depending on the broadband plan they choose.

"Optus has earned a reputation as a leader in the bundling of telecommunications services. With changing consumer purchase and usage behaviours now emerging, we recognised the need to evolve our bundled offers. We asked our customers what they wanted and they told us" bundling benefits that offered choice, simplicity and real value," Scott Lorson, Acting Managing Director, Optus Consumer & Multimedia said.

"Optus is a leader in the consumer mobile segment and we are building on that leadership with this exciting offer across the full range of Optus consumer products - both fixed and mobile, both voice and data," Allen Lew, Managing Director, Optus Mobile said.

For consumers considering broadband, this is the time to take the plunge as Optus puts forward one of the most compelling broadband deals in the market. Millions of Optus mobile, telephony and broadband subscribers are also eligible for some serious savings.

"More than ever, Optus is changing the rules in Australian telecommunications, in a way that no other telecommunications company can do. And now more than ever, Australian consumers are benefiting," Mr Lorson added.

Optus' recent entry into the broadband DSL market helped stimulate a tidal wave of demand that now sees nearly 100,000 new households taking up broadband each month.

The cumulative effect of Optus' extended DSL reach and the company's move to now offer broadband discounts to its mobile customer base will take competition to the next level and further stimulate the broadband market.

Over and above the latest savings, consumers will continue to enjoy existing Optus 'yes' rewards such as reduced broadband access fees and installation charges when taking-up multiple Optus products.

Tomorrow, Optus will begin a major advertising program nationally to support the new plans.
