Optus improves network coverage in Gilgandra North
07 Jun 2006

Optus announced today a further boost to its network coverage in New South Wales with the installation of a new mobile facility at Gilgandra North.

The new facility will enhance Optus GSM network coverage in Gilgandra North and along the Newell and Castlereagh Highway.

The expansion of coverage facilities provides local residents with a real alternative to other carriers and allows current Optus customers to use their mobile phones in more places in the region.

Warren Hardy, Managing Director Optus Consumer said, "The new mobile facility is part of Optus' commitment to provide quality coverage to regional areas in New South Wales.

"The increase in coverage facilities will not only help residents and rural businesses communicate more effectively, but will make it easier for travellers to make mobile phone calls while on the road.

"To date, Optus has invested more than $536 million to roll out 1,534 mobile base stations across New South Wales, providing network coverage to 97 percent of the state's population," Mr Hardy said.

Daniel Naveau, Network Communications Dubbo said, "Residents and business people of Western NSW now have quality mobile coverage and greater carrier choice with recent upgrades to existing mobile sites at Mt Canobolas, Mundeadjong Peaks and Lake Cargelligo and further plans to upgrade sites at Bellata, Mount Cenn Cruaich and Tallabung Mountain."
