Optus improves network coverage in Southern Cross, Kalgoorlie West and Mt Goddard
24 Oct 2006

Optus announced today a further enhancement to its network coverage in Western Australian (WA) with the installation of three new mobile facilities at Southern Cross, Kalgoorlie West and Mt Goddard.

The new facilities will enhance Optus GSM network coverage in Southern Cross, Kalgoorlie West and Mt Goddard and the surrounding areas.

Warren Hardy, Managing Director Optus Consumer, said, "These expansions demonstrate Optus' commitment to providing the highest quality of GSM coverage in regional Australia.

"The new facilities in Southern Cross and Kalgoorlie West will provide network coverage in the townships and along the Eastern Highway, allowing residents or visitors to the area to use their Optus mobile on the go.

"The new site in Mt Goddard will provide coverage along the Great Western Highway between Kambalda and Boulder South.

"To date, Optus has invested more than $115 million to roll out 325 mobile base stations across Western Australia, providing network coverage to 91 percent of the state's population," Mr Hardy said.

Vince Troth, Optus State Manager for Western Australia, said, "Optus continues to invest in WA, providing local residents with a real alternative to other carriers.

"These new sites also form part of Optus' commitment to the WA Government to build an additional 94 sites across the State by January 2008," Mr Troth said.
