Optus launches 3G campaign
06 Oct 2006

To support the growth of its 3G services, Optus will launch a new 'internet on your mobile' 3G advertising campaign this Sunday, 8 October 2006.

The campaign is designed to create customer awareness and demonstrate the unique benefits of Optus 3G including faster speeds, exciting content, Live TV and the ability to download high quality video, film clips and music.

The ads contrast the peaceful, natural world of animals and their slightly bemused attitude as they interact with humans in everyday situations. The ads show that chaos and panic could have been avoided had the animals used Optus mobile content.

For example: a tiger attempts to read the newspaper over someone's shoulder at a bus stop, this scares the commuter. To avoid this mayhem the tiger could have used his Optus 3G mobile phone to view the news live on ABC News.

"Optus is seeing steady growth in 3G with new and existing customers, purchasing 3G handsets and 3G plans," Warren Hardy, Managing Director, Optus Consumer said.

"Customers are enjoying Optus' content with music track downloads the fastest growing area. People are also personalising their handsets with TruTone ringtones and wallpapers to give them that extra level of personalisation."

3G customers with compatible handsets can experience a wide range of benefits, including:

  • Email and Instant Messenger;
  • Up-to-date daily updates, live sport results, weather and stock updates;
  • Over 12,000 MTV music downloads, ringtones and video clips; and
  • Live TV and shopping with EBay.

"A unique benefit of Optus 3G is MyZooNow, an active, intuitive portal where information is continually updated and pushed to mobile handsets. MyZooNow gives a level of personalisation not seen before in the market," Mr Hardy said.

Optus' new campaign reinforces its position in the 3G market and as a provider of exciting content and services to customers including Google, Friend FindA, EBay and MTV.

Optus' Google service is the first of its kind in Australia, allowing Optus mobile customers to access Google on the Optus Zoo homepage, so they can conduct a search on Google just like they would on a PC.

"We are confident that customers that have not yet made the switch to Optus 3G will see our new campaign and consider making the move," Mr Hardy said.

On 8 October 2006, Optus will begin a national advertising campaign focusing on the theme: 'internet on your mobile.'
