The Door To Australian Drama Opens For Two Aspiring Producers
23 Jan 2007

Sydney-siders invited to a free street festival celebration featuring Big Day Out performers, Something with Numbers plus Temper Trap and Purple Sneakers resident, PhDJ

Optus, MTV Networks Australia and Sony Ericsson are set to bring East Sydney to a halt on Sunday 28 January as they announce the winners of the OPTUS ONE80PROJECT at a free street festival.

The OPTUS ONE80PROJECT street festival will be the final stage in a four month nationwide search for a drama suitable for viewing on mobile, internet and TV. The competition attracted over 50 entries from across the country with the finalists using a wide variety of uniquely conceptual themes that could all be made into a distinctive and refreshing TV, online and mobile program.

From the 10 finalists, two winners will be selected and announced at the festival. The first will be chosen by the OPTUS ONE80PROJECT panel of judges including industry acclaimed actors Abbie Cornish and Joel Edgerton, reputable Director Nash Edgerton, screenwriter and film director, Artistic Director, Company B, Neil Armfield, and newcomer and critically acclaimed screenwriter, Alice Bell. The second will be selected by the public who have until 25 January 2007 to cast their vote at www.one80project.com.au or by sending an SMS to 199 ONE80 (199 66380).

Both winners will get the opportunity to work with MTV production experts and an executive producer at MTV Australia's production facilities to develop and shape their original pilot into a full-length multiplatform drama. The completed episodes will be shown on MTV and accessible via OptusNet and the OptusZoo portal. The 10 finalists also each receive a Sony Ericsson K800i Cyber-shotâ„¢ mobile phone.

Big Day Out performers Something with Numbers, plus Temper Trap and Purple Sneakers resident, PhDJ, are set to keep the crowds vibing all night with a free live performance that will rock Yurong Street.

The street festival will showcase the top 10 dramas short listed in the OPTUS ONE80PROJECT - an initiative produced by OPTUS, MTV and SONY ERICSSON to support up and coming producers.

Optus, MTV Networks, and Sony Ericsson encourage one and all to arrive early to secure a spot at the free street festival SUNDAY 28 JANUARY - FROM 6:30PM CORNER OF WILLIAM AND YURONG STREET, EAST SYDNEY. Attendees will be the first in Australia to celebrate the unveiling of a new local talent.
