Applications now open
Applications are open for the Optus Connecting Communities Grants Program where Optus is encouraging not-for-profit organisations and Optus employees nationally to apply for grants of up to $5,000 to reduce social isolation and reconnect disengaged youth in the community.
Australian not-for-profit community organisations that meet the following areas are eligible to apply for a grant.
Disengaged Youth – are adolescents and young adults (up to the age of 25) who have become disengaged from society due to lack of education, skills training and employment opportunities; homelessness; substance abuse; and poverty.
Social Isolation - encompasses social, physical, emotional and geographic isolation. Grant applications should demonstrate how projects will promote and enhance social inclusion such as building social networks, increasing participation in community or family life, or providing access to services such as health and education.
Additionally, Optus employees can apply on behalf of not-for-profit organisations.
In late 2008, Optus Connecting Communities Grants Program will award at least 20 grants between $1000 and $5,000 (including GST) to programs that aim to deliver positive social outcomes in the community by creating new opportunities, access to education, strengthening support networks and connecting young people to community life.
Applications close 1 September 2008 and for full grant guidelines/criteria and to apply visit About Optus>Community & environment>Community at www.optus.com.au.
