Optus announced today the opening of its unique mobile application store.

The Optus Application Store is now available for Optus mobile customers to purchase and download applications for use on their compatible 2G and 3G enabled Symbian, Android, BlackBerry, Windows media and Java handsets.

"The Optus Application Store gives our customers an easy to navigate 'one stop shop' to purchase a full suite of applications via Optus Zoo," Mark Mulder, General Manager of Optus Content and Portals said.

"Optus is the first Australian operator to give customers access to an Application Store with a range of categories, across a multitude of genres. It allows every customer with a data enabled handset to pick and choose an app that suits them, and with one click, the freedom to be charged automatically via their mobile bill.

"With close to 1000 applications available to customers at launch, and the ability to browse via rating, category or review, we are confident there will be something of interest for everyone," Mr Mulder said.

The Optus Application Store has a variety of categories including Games, Utilities, Entertainment, Music, Social Networking, Finance, Sports, Business, Lifestyle, Productivity, Education, Books, Weather, Navigation, Health & Fitness, Medical, Themes, Reference, Photography, News and Reference.

Customers will be charged a one time purchase fee for the APP and all subsequent data usage from the application.
