In an Australian first, blind brothers Lorin and Dean Nicholson have embarked on an epic 4,000 kms journey riding tandem push bikes from Perth to Sydney to raise funds to support people who are vision impaired.
Anthony Shiner, General Manager, Optus Country said Optus is proud to support the history-making expedition by helping the cyclists stay connected to their fans through technology - a reflection of Optus' commitment to giving people in regional Australia access to a quality network and reliable communications solutions.
"Optus is dedicated to bringing choice and competition to previously underserved areas of Australia while delivering a superior customer experience and reliable communications networks.
"We've provided Lorin and Dean with Optus Thuraya Dual Mode Satellite phones to help them stay in touch with their team of supporters as they complete their journey across Australia.
"These phones are the latest in mobile satellite technology by providing the best of both worlds with the choice to use the normal 2G mobile network, or satellite services when you're outside Optus' mobile coverage areas," Mr Shiner said.
As they make their way toward Sydney with an aim to raise vital funds for Vision Australia and generate awareness of the significant abilities of people who are blind or have low vision, Lorin Nicholson reflects on the importance of having access to reliable technology.
"We've encountered some of the country's harshest terrain along this way, and it's been very reassuring to know that our Optus phones keep us connected to our friends and supporters - even in some of Australia less populated areas," said Mr Nicholson.
